Responsible Volunteering

Responsible travel means making thoughtful, respectful choices that support the people and places you visit. At The Nasio Trust, we focus on sustainable, community-led volunteering that strengthens local systems, respects culture, and supports environmental well-being.

We see volunteering as a two-way exchange: while you support ongoing local initiatives, you’ll also gain insight into Kenya’s rich culture, environment, and the resilience of rural communities. In Musanda, you’ll join projects that contribute to long-term progress – socially, economically, and environmentally.

Our programmes are designed in partnership with the communities we serve and are built to deliver lasting benefit in areas like education, healthcare, and livelihoods. Volunteers join work that is already active and continues year-round, whether volunteers are present or not.

We directly manage and implement every project volunteers take part in. This ensures quality, continuity, and a focus on genuine local priorities, rather than one-off experiences.

To keep everyone safe and respected, we follow clear safeguarding policies: volunteers are never left alone with children or vulnerable individuals. All volunteers are welcomed into structured roles, with guidance from our team, and are expected to uphold Nasio’s values, standards, and safeguarding commitments at all times.
